It isn't intended to be a 'programmed' event, but rather a flexible, open forum to help showcase experimental sound work in the Bristol/Bath area, and to bring like-minded people together. It's grown out of the new MA in Creative Music Technology I run at Bath Spa University College, but is open to all. Bywords are improvisation, collaboration and community. The first Random Function took place in October '03 as part of ResFest, the international digital film festival, and featured guest artist Kim Cascone. The second, in November, was part of onedotzero, the ICA's digital arts festival. The third, in January '04, took place as part of Sonic Arts Network's 'Hardware Hacking' event with Nic Collins.
